Terms of Service

Organization: OPP Veterans’ Association (“OPPVA”, “we”, “our”, “us”)

These Terms of Service govern access to and use of the OPP Veterans’ Association members‑only website (“Site”). By using the Site, you agree to follow these Terms and any policies referenced within them.

1. Membership Eligibility

Membership and access to the Site are limited to individuals who:

  • Are current members in good standing of the OPP Veterans’ Association.
  • Have completed the registration process using accurate personal information.
  • Are not currently suspended or removed from the Association or the Site.

The Association may verify eligibility at any time.

2. Account Registration and Security

Members are responsible for safeguarding their login credentials. This includes:

  • Keeping usernames and passwords confidential.
  • Ensuring no other person uses your account.
  • Notifying the Association immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

The Association is not responsible for losses arising from compromised accounts.

3. Use of the Site

The Site is intended to support communication, community engagement, and access to Association resources. Members agree not to:

  • Share or distribute members‑only content outside the Association.
  • Post content that is defamatory, discriminatory, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate.
  • Upload or transmit malware, harmful code, or unauthorized data.
  • Use the Site for commercial, political, or non‑Association‑related solicitation.
  • Misrepresent identity, service history, or membership status.

The Association may remove content or restrict access if these rules are violated.

4. Privacy and Personal Information

The Site may collect personal information for membership administration, communication, and service delivery.

  • Information is handled in accordance with the Association’s Privacy Policy.
  • Members must not collect, store, or distribute other members’ personal information without consent.
  • Sensitive information shared within the Site must be treated with discretion and respect.

5. User‑Generated Content

Members may post comments, documents, or other materials (“User Content”). By doing so, you grant the Association a non‑exclusive license to display and store that content for Association purposes. You confirm that:

  • You own or have rights to the content you post.
  • Your content does not infringe on third‑party rights or violate laws or Association policies.

The Association may remove User Content at its discretion.

6. Intellectual Property

All Site content—including logos, publications, historical materials, and digital resources—is the property of the OPP Veterans’ Association or its licensors.

  • Members may view and use content for personal, non‑commercial purposes.
  • Reproduction, distribution, or modification requires written permission.

7. Communications and Notifications

By using the Site, you consent to receive electronic communications related to:

  • Membership updates
  • Association news
  • Events and announcements
  • Administrative notices

Members are responsible for keeping contact information current.

8. Suspension and Termination

The Association may suspend or terminate Site access if a member:

  • Violates these Terms
  • Misuses the Site or its content
  • Engages in conduct harmful to the Association or its members

Termination of Site access does not automatically terminate Association membership, unless determined under the Association’s bylaws.

Members may request account deactivation at any time.

9. Disclaimers

The Site is provided on an “as‑is” and “as‑available” basis. The Association does not guarantee:

  • Uninterrupted or error‑free operation
  • Accuracy or completeness of posted content
  • Security of data transmitted over the internet

Members use the Site at their own discretion.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Association is not liable for:

  • Indirect or consequential damages
  • Loss of data or unauthorized access
  • Actions taken by members based on Site content

Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the Site is to discontinue use.

11. Indemnification

Members agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Association, its officers, and volunteers from claims arising from:

  • Misuse of the Site
  • Violation of these Terms
  • Posting of User Content

12. Changes to These Terms

The Association may update these Terms periodically. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Members will be notified of significant updates.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and applicable federal laws of Canada. Any disputes will be resolved in Ontario.
