Service Information & Biography
Started with the OPP on February 23, 1956 and was initially posted to Dundas DHQ. The farm boy from the Ottawa Valley didn’t fit in to the big city so he was posted to Waterdown and then Renfrew. In 1964, he took the motorcycle course in Camp Borden and was posted to Napanee to patrol the two lane 401 highway between Kingston and Oshawa. In the winter, he was assigned to criminal investigations. This was followed by postings and promotions to Napanee, Madoc, and Sharbot Lake. When the Ottawa Detachment was divided into three, he was assigned to open the new detachment in West Carleton. Ben’s last posting was as the Detachment Commander back home in Killaloe from which he retired as a Sergeant on March 31, 1986 to go back to farming in Tramore.
