Life Member Bryan Flannigan passed away peacefully at the age of 81, at LHSC, Victoria Hospital on Monday, August 31, 2026,

Beloved best friend and life companion for over 60 years to Beverley Flannigan. Loving father of Jason “Jas” Flannigan (Sherry Adams), Matthew “Matt” Flannigan and Nerissa “Ness” (Craig) Markham. Cherished grandfather of David (Heidi), Tanner, Madison (Mitch), Mackenzie, Morgan, Cole and Blair. Proud great-grandfather of Maverick, Nova, Datson, Emerson and Boston. Dear uncle of Tyler (Cheryl) Boyd and Morgan Boyd. Brother of the late Evelyn (the late Ed) Boyd. Forever in the hearts of his extended family and many friends.

Bryan’s passion was fishing, dogs, horses along with painting in his spare time. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the CCTC at LHSC, Victoria Hospital along with all of Bryan’s homecare staff, for all their care and support.

Policing Career Highlights

Bryan joined the Ontario Provincial Police on December 1, 1967, with a posting to Forest Detachment. On May 31, 1969, Bryan resigned from the OPP. He was rehired on December 1, 1970 and posted to Guelph Detachment. Bryan was transferred to Cambridge Detachment on August 8, 1989. Senior Constable Flannigan retired from the OPP on August 31, 1997.
Bryan was a Life Member of the Guelph Chapter of the OPP Veterans' Association.
Bryan was 81 and had been retired for 29 years when he passed away.

Passing of Terry Brandt

It is with sorrow that we advise of the passing of retired Sergeant Terry John Brandt #4507 on September 27, 2026, a month shy of his of 76th birthday. Terry began his policing career with the Ontario Provincial Police on March 16, 1970, as a Cadet at the Milton Detachment. Terry became a regular member on October 27, 1971, and remained at the Milton Detachment. On May 10, 1993, Terry was promoted to Sergeant. Terry was transferred to the Cambridge Detachment following the closure of the Milton Detachment in 1994. Sergeant Brandt retired from the OPP on June 30, 2003, following 33 years of public service. Terry was a month shy of his of 76th birthday and had been retired for 23 years when he passed away. Terry will be deeply missed by his wife, Pat; daughter, Tracey; son, Trevor (Nia); and grandchildren, Courtney, Nadine, Kian, and Taya. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Jane (Doug) and Heather (Reg), and his brother, Mike, as well as his many friends, former colleagues, hockey families, and all those who shared in his life. Terry was predeceased by his father Jim, his mother Lorraine, and his sister Jacquie. Condolences to the Brandt family, friends and former colleagues. May you rest in peace.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Robert McKee, age 84, who died peacefully in London, Ontario on August 12, 2026, surrounded by family

Born and raised in London, Ontario, John was the son of the late Jack and Beatrice McKee. As a young man, he served his country in the Navy before embarking on a distinguished 35-year career with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). John served the communities of Dutton, Gogama, and Wingham, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was proud to serve as the detachment commander in both Gogama and Wingham. Those who worked alongside him knew him as someone who led with integrity, hard work, and an unwavering sense of duty.

John’s curiosity and love of adventure extended well beyond his badge. He earned his private pilot’s license and took to the skies whenever he could. As a police scuba diver, he wasn’t afraid to go beneath the surface, literally, in service of his work. He also had a passion for photography, and for a time kept his own darkroom, where he could patiently bring his pictures to life. And at the end of a long day, John was always happy to unwind with a good glass of whisky, preferably shared with the people he loved most.

But above all his accomplishments, John will be remembered simply as a man who would do anything for his family. He was honest, hardworking, and steady, the kind of man others could always count on.

John is survived by his wife, Monica; his daughter, Marcy (David); his son, Christopher (Cassie); his cherished grandchildren, James, Anna, and Grace; his siblings, Norman, Joan, and Roger (Kathy) and their families. His legacy of integrity, warmth, and strength will live on in them.

Policing Career Highlights

Neil joined the Ontario Provincial Police on November 23, 1964, and spent his entire policing career at the Orillia Detachment.
In the early hours of January 2, 1981, while serving with the Orillia OPP, Neil suffered multiple gunshot wounds during what had originally appeared to be a routine traffic stop on Highway 11. Despite his injuries, he returned fire, and radioed for assistance. He was later awarded the OPP Medal for Bravery and the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery in 1981.
Neil retired from the OPP on November 30, 1994 with 30 years of service to his community.
In 2011, the City of Orillia named a street in his honour, and Hurtubise Drive eventually became the site for OPP Central Region Headquarters. On January 2, 2022, Orillia recognized Neil by naming January 2 after him.
Neil’s artwork is also recognized in the more than 500 signs he has painted, which are displayed in provincial police buildings across the province.

Family & loved ones

Predeceased by his wife Patricia Marilyn Hurtubise (nee Mitchell). They were married for 62 years.
Neil will be sadly missed by his children Elizabeth (David) Anderson, Michael (Rose) Hurtubise, and Anne Marie (Larry) Wilkie. Neil will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Andrew Wilkie (Aimee Bedell), Malorie Wilkie (Devin Proulx), Niklas Eriksson (Brittany Annand), Emelie Eriksson (Daniel Brodhecker), Mitchell Hurtubise (Sherilyn Edwards), and Hannah Hurtubise and by his great grandchildren Katrina Walker, Jordan Wilkie, Colton Wilkie, Bryleigh Annand, Colby Eriksson, Riley Eriksson, Kai Eriksson and Paige Eriksson.

She was a devoted OPP officer for over 30 years and retired with the rank of Sergeant. Heather was a pioneer for many female officers in service. She dedicated her life to helping people and was able to do that through her work.

Family & loved ones

Heather will be missed and fondly remembered by her dear friend and long-time partner, Bruce Villella. She is now reunited with her parents Olive and Ed Lacey. Loving sister of Dawn Douglas (Larry). Cherished aunt of Rob Douglas (Shannon), and Stephen Douglas (Isobel).

Gary passed away peacefully at the Brandon Health Centre with his family at his side on Saturday September 5th, 2026.

Gary started his policing career with the Brandon Police Service in 1972. He remained there until 1976. In June 1992 Gary became a member of the OPP First Nations Policing Program and was posted to Wapekeka F.N. Territory. In February 1994 he became a regular member of the OPP, Provincial Constable badge No. 8421 with an initial posting to the Northwest Patrol Unit. Gary served at Grassy Narrows, North West Region In-Service Training, North West Region Crime Unit, and Kenora Detachment.

Gary retired from the OPP in 2015.

He joined the OPPVA, Chapter 17 Kenora in 2023.

Gary will be lovingly remembered by his wife Beverley, children Dawn and Amanda and their families

John began his policing career in November 1964 at Dryden Detachment. Provincial Constable badge no. 2758. He served at Central Patricia, Emo and Atikokan Detachments before resigning in January 1981 to become Chief of Police, Atikokan Police Department.

John joined the OPPVA in 2020 and received his OPPVA Life Membership in 2025.

John was predeceased by his wife Eva Marie (2025). He is survived by daughters Kim and Deanna and their families.

I regret to inform you of the passing of Chapter 18 Honorary Member Sharon Vanderende on September 3rd, 2026 at the age of 71. Sharon was wife of Chapter Member John Vanderende, who passed away in August of 2024.

Clarence passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4th, 2026, at the Perth Hospital at the age of 86. He was born on August 31st in Nova Scotia. He attended Lunenburg Academy and then Fisher Park High School in Ottawa. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy then went on to a lengthy career with the Ontario Provincial Police where he held the rank of Constable and then Detective Constable. After retiring from the police force, he continued with a Provincial Court Services position and then a Court Enforcement Officer. Clarence’s places of employment took him to Gananoque, Almonte and Perth, Ontario where he made many friends over time. Throughout life Clarence enjoyed playing sports and hunting, but his true passion was certainly, entertaining with his many musical talents from a very young age. From the drums, harmonica, banjo, to his guitar and his voice, he cherished his time with his band “The Valley Rovers” and family and friends. Loving every minute of playing a tune of mostly old country, east coast and Irish.

Clarence is survived by his spouse Irene; his children Ryan (Gudrun) and Melanie (Glenn), his grandchild Spencer, his siblings, Diane (Dave Stubbs), Miles, George (Rose) Rattray, and brother-in-law Maynard. He was predeceased by his father Clarence Sr., Mother Katherine, Stepmothers Valetta and Stella, his sister Patricia Delahunt and brother Bob (Marie). Clarence will be fondly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

The family wish to thank the staff of the Perth Hospital for their compassion, care and support.

A celebration of Clarence’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 244 26 Beckwith St. E. Perth, on Sunday, October 4th, 2026 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm.
