Service Information & Biography

Retired since January 31, 1988, Keith commenced his career with the OPP on October 31, 1957. He was in the Sault that year for two weeks and then at Blind River long enough to have lunch! He bounced around quite a lot at first and also spent two months in Spanish, Ontario. Keith finally had a long-term posting in Elliott Lake where he served for ten years. Working his way back to the Sault, he spent five years in Blind River, the last two of which were as a radio operator. In 1972 he returned to Sault Ste. Marie Headquarters as a reader. Keith was responsible for reading all reports that came into headquarters, which prior to online reporting, was a very important role. His final position with the Sault OPP was as court officer, a job he held until his retirement in 1987. Keith was also a training officer in First Aid and Firearms, as well as defensive driving.

Keith was engaged to Kathleen Molnar before he came on the job, and they married in July 1958. She was supportive of the challenges that came with his role as police officer. She was a teacher and maintained her qualifications while supply teaching when they had a family of four children – two daughters and two sons; Charlene, Mark, Christopher and Melanie.

Keith is an inspiration for all OPP retirees. He has now been retired longer than he worked, which is a goal for all of us. Thank you Keith for your service and for being such a terrific role model.
