It is with sadness that we announce the death of Leo Malette in Sturgeon Falls, Friday December 19, 2025, at the age of 80 years.

A native of Cache Bay, Leo spent 40 years in the service of the public to improve the community. With honesty and integrity, he served as mayor and then as a devoted council member of the West Nipissing council for many years. He occupied many different positions from president of the administrative council at the Au Chateau to council administrator with the West Nipissing General Hospital to many others throughout the community.

Policing Career Highlights

  • Wally began his career with the OPP in 1955 and was posted to Schreiber Detachment. He served in Northwestern Ontario, Thunder Bay District. until his retirement in 1988 at Thunder Bay Detachment.

Family & loved ones

  • Wally is survived by his loving wife Eileen Cringle, with whom he spent the last 25 years. He is also survived by children Debbie Bunch (Martin), Tricia Cringle, Robert Cringle. Wally was predeceased by his son David Cringle (Carrol), brother John Cringle (Marlene), his ex-wife Rose Cringle (Oppel). Wally is survived by five grandchildren Jeff Bunch (Kim), Zak Bowler (Jen), Jon Cringle, Josh Nelson, and Hunter Charles, as well as several great-grandchildren.

J. P. began his career with the Thunder Bay Police in 1987, rising through the ranks and retiring in 2018 after serving 31 years and 7 years as the Chief of the Thunder Bay Police Service. He was 61 years old. He was the son of Chapter 16 Life Member Leo Levesque.

Policing Career Highlights

  • JP dedicated 31 years to the Thunder Bay Police Service, where he rose through the ranks and was eventually appointed Chief of Police in 2011. He led the city’s police service with integrity and courage until his retirement in 2018.
  • Among many accomplishments, the moments and milestones he spoke most proudly of included teaching and mentoring at the Ontario Police College in Aylmer, Ontario; attending the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia; and graduating from the Police Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Management.
  • In 2014, JP was humbled to receive the Order of Merit of the Police Forces in recognition of his exceptional service and contributions to policing, presented by the Governor General of Canada at Rideau Hall.
  • JP’s commitment to his community extended well beyond his primary career. He served as Vice-President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and sat on the Confederation College Board of Governors. His role in organizing and supporting Special Olympics Thunder Bay

Family & loved ones

  • He is survived by his devoted wife, Colleen; daughters Madison (Hunter) and Olivia (Graeme); and his cherished granddaughter, Charlotte. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved parents, Stella and Leo; Patricia and Rod MacPherson; and extended family members, including his numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved as his own.

It is with regret that I advise of the passing of former Provincial Constable Charles Gordon (Gord) CALDER #3640 on December 10, 2025, at the age of 82.. Gord was an officer with the OPP for 12 years. He wanted to spend more time with his family, so became a Hearing Instrument Specialist, and eventually founded Georgian Bay Hearing Aids. He served the large community around Owen Sound for 35 years.

I regret to inform you of the passing of Chapter 18 member William "Bill" Reynolds. Bill joined the Midland/Southern Georgian Bay Auxiliary OPP Unit on July 6, 2000, attaining the rank of Auxiliary Staff Sergeant (Unit Commander) before retiring in 2020. Bill Passed away on December 9th, 2025 at the age of 79.

Policing Career Highlights

  • Clay began his career with the Ontario Provincial Police on July 5, 1964 as a Civilian Radio Operator at Long Sault Detachment.
  • On July 4, 1967, Clay became a regular member and was posted to Emo Detachment. On February 9, 1970, Clay was transferred to Red Lake Detachment.
  • On January 25, 1971, Clay was transferred to Central Patricia Detachment and to Downsview Detachment on May 3rd.
  • On July 17, 1972, Clay was transferred to Mattawa Detachment.
  • After 19 years of service with the OPP, Clay joined the Office of Fire Marshal (OFM).
  • Clay was also a Life Member with the North Bay Chapter of the Ontario Provincial Police Veterans’ Association.

It is with sadness that I advise of the passing of retired Detective Constable Joerg (Karl) Max HENNEK #4448 on December 8, 2025, with Marilyne by his side. Karl had been battling Cancer. Karl was 76 and had been retired for over 22 years when he passed away. In retirement, Karl was an active member of the Toronto Chapter of the Ontario Provincial Police Veterans’ Association, serving in the Chapter’s Executive.

  • Karl joined the Ontario Provincial Police on July 5, 1971, with a posting to Toronto Detachment. On May 22, 1972, Karl was transferred to Oak Ridges Detachment.
  • On August 11, 1975, Karl was transferred to Brighton Detachment. On November 17, 1997, Karl was transferred to the Premier’s Security Detail.
  • Detective Constable Karl Hennek retired from the OPP on September 30, 2003, following 32 years of public service.

Policing Career Highlights

  • Cal became a member of the OPP in July 195 with an initial posting to Kenora DHQ. Cal was well known throughout the northwest, as his policing career with the OPP saw many transfers. Sioux Lookout 1954-56, Atikokan 1956-58, Dryden 1958-59, Ear Falls 1959-63, Dryden 1963-66, a promotion saw Cal going to Emo 1966-1970, Atikokan 1970-1974, promotion to Sergeant and transferred to Sioux Lookout 1974-79, then off to Emo. Sgt Robertson retired in April 1986 with 32 years of service. Cal held Life Memberships in The Police Association of Ontario, and the Ontario Provincial Police Veteran’s Association.

Family & loved ones

  • Left to mourn his passing is son Don (Sandra) Robertson of Fort Frances, sister Bev (Denis) Busch of Fort Frances and sister-in-law Harriet Robertson of Victoria, BC.
  • Cal also leaves behind grand-daughter Karrie (Darren) LeCraw of London, Ontario, grandson Steve (Cheryl) Robertson of Sunderland, Ontario, grand-daughter Laura (Travis) Lichti of Jarvis, Ontario. His great-grandchildren are Reid and Birch LeCraw, Ella Robertson, Tyson and Leah Lichti.
  • He was predeceased by his wife Noreen in 2024. Also predeceased by parents Wilfred and Annie Robertson and brother Murray Robertson, son Dale in 1980 and daughter Susan in 2024.
